Sunday Night Notes - Nelson to miss time, not serious

July 29, 2012 Updated Jul 29, 2012 at 10:26 PM EDT

Pittsford (WKBW.com) David Nelson revealed on Sunday night that he suffered a strained tendon in his right knee when he was injured on Saturday. The Bills WR will miss some time, but it could have been worse. "Nothing serious. No long term damage", said Nelson. "The way it looked on film, the way it felt on the field. I'm very lucky to have the diagnosis that I got".

Head Coach Chan Gailey says he expects Nelson to miss a few more days with Wednesday an early target for his return to practice.

"It wasn't bad bad, but he's going to be out 4-to-5 days. It's a good thing we have the day off tomorrow, will give him an extra day.", said Gailey.

Nelson watched the first night practice of training camp from the sideline, and was joined by a couple of his teammates. Tackle Eric Pears was a spectator for the second straight day, he's nursing an aggravated groin. You can also add cornerback Justin Rogers to the injury list. Rogers tweaked a hamstring on Sunday and is expected to miss 4-to-5 days with the injury.

Highlights from Sunday included a couple of big efforts by a pair of rookies

-First round pick Stephon Gilmore continues to impress. On one play Gilmore stayed with Stevie Johnson and then knocked the ball out of his hands after Johnson looked like he had made the catch. Gilmore also made a physical play on Mario Hagan, knocking the ball away in a similar fashion.

-WR T.J. Graham had several nice catches. The rookie hauled in a couple of nice grabs down the sideline. One came from Ryan Fitzpatrick in 7-on-7 drills. Graham also made a nice catch on a long throw from Vince Young.

-WR Marcus Easley also had a standout performance on Sunday. He may have come up with the play of the night. Easley kept his concentration on a tipped ball by Aaron Williams before hauling it in for the catch.

-The Bills have Monday off, get back on the practice field on Tuesday afternoon.
