Pittsford - It was a beautiful night for football on Thursday where the Bills hit the field in front of packed crowd at St. John Fisher College.
The Bills finally got a chance to see their newly signed free agents in action. The newly ratified CBA allowed several players to practice for the first time. Here's some notes from Thursday.

-New Bills LB Nick Barnett jumped right in at inside linebacker. Barnett admitted he was a little rusty and trying to think too much.. but was excited to get back into the mix. The former Green Bay Packer made a couple of plays on a night that the defense tried to set the tone.

-Re-signed Cornerback Drayton Florence went out of his way to show he was back. Florence moved right in with the first team, and battled with Stevie Johnson for much of the night. Florence gave Johnson a shot during red-zone 7-on-7 drills.. knocking him out of bounds at the goal line. Three plays later the two tangled again.. with Johnson unable to haul in a pass from Ryan Fitzpatrick in the end zone.

-QB Tyler Thigpen ran with the second team on Thursday night. His favorite target of the night was UB product Naaman Roosevelt. The two hooked up for a pair of touchdowns during red-zone work.

-QB/WR Brad Smith took a few reps under center in his first action with the Bills. Most of his work came in 7-on-7 drills earlier in practice where he checked down to Corey McIntyre on one play.

The Bills also welcome a new WR into camp. The team signed former first round pick Buster Davis on Thursday. The 2007 first round pick of the San Diego Chargers 51 catches for 558 yards and two touchdowns during his career.

To make room the Bills waived injured UB DB Dominic Cook. Cook suffered a knee injury on Monday, and was expected to miss at least the next month with the injury.

Also on the injury front first round draft pick Marcell Dareus "tweaked" something at the end of practice, he was looked at by trainers. Chan Gailey decided to hold Dareus out the rest of the way. Also WR David Nelson has some trouble breathing and left the field. He did not return.
