With the Bills on the field for Organized Team Activities this week, I thought I'd pass along some news on rookie defensive end Alex Carrington. The Bills third round draft choice this year out of Arkansas State just picked up another collegiate honor to his credit. Carrington was recently named the Sun Belt Male athlete of the year. He's the first Arkansas State athlete to earn the honor.

“We are thrilled for Alex to be honored and recognized with the top award given by the Sun Belt Conference,” ASU athletic director Dr. Dean Lee said. “His record, both academically and athletically, is well documented, and his character and integrity truly epitomize what you are looking for in a student-athlete. We are extremely proud of him and how he represents our athletic program.”

Carrington, a pass rush specialist, was a four year starter for the Red Wolves, and finished his senior season with nine sacks and 41 tackles. The Bills see the 6-foot-5, 284 pound rookie as a player who will provide instant depth to the teams defensive front.

This is what Bills Vice President of College Scouting Tom Modrak had to say after the team drafted Carrington back in April. "We think Alex has a chance to come in here and play behind two good players and spot in, play now and continue to get better. He's a good kid who can work hard at it, and for me, it's a great set-up. We get some depth, we get a guy that can continue to develop and get better".

Carrington was also named first team All-Sun Belt as a senior, and was consistently on the ASU honor roll as a student. Cheers to a guy who got it done both on and off the field. May it continue with the Bills -
