It was the annual locker clean out day at One Bills Drive on Monday. Players gathering in Orchard Park for team meetings, physicals and to pack up for the off-season. The team trying to find some positives, and a silver lining in the wake of a 6-and-10 season, and a brutal 49-21 loss in the finale in New England.

Here's a rundown from the day..

-Bills GM Buddy Nix made a brief appearance on Monday and offered this on the 2011 season. "It was a two part season. We were excited with the first seven games. I knew we weren't quite as far along as many people thought we were. It was fun to see the fans and this city get as excited as they did. There is no excuse for losing seven games in a row. Complete downer and complete surprise. You can make excuses with the injuries, etc.. even with that we should be better.

Nix has a week of meetings planned with players, coaches and then the front office. He will have his annual season ending meeting with owner Ralph Wilson Jr. later this week and declined comment on any player or coach until those meetings conclude.

-Nix specifically declined comment on Stevie Johnson, the pending free agent did not make himself available to the media on Monday morning. Johnson was benched by head coach Chan Gailey in the first quarter of Sunday's loss in New England. Johnson received an excessive celebration penalty after his 18 yard touchdown catch for showing a t-shirt that said "Happy New Year". He did not return to the game following the display.

Johnson's teammates continued to support the wide receiver on Monday, but also said they understood the decision by Gailey to bench him. The move came in what may be Johnson's final game as a member of the Bills, Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick hopes that's not the case.

"I don't know what's going to happen, I'm not the decision maker." , said Fitzpatrick on Monday. "I know they know I want him back, he knows I want him back, he wants to be here. I'm a better player with Stevie on my team, he's a better player with me as his QB.
I want my best receiver back.", said Fitzpatrick.

-Bills RB Fred Jackson said on Monday that there have been no new conversations about a new contract with the Bills. Jackson maintains that he has confidence and faith that Buddy Nix will get a new deal done. "Haven't talked at all. They have had a lot to take care of. Hopefully I get a phone call soon.", said Jackson who has one year left on his current deal. Jackson says it was difficult to sit and watch the last several weeks, expects to starting running again in the next week and a half coming off the leg injury.

-RB CJ Spiller says he was happy with his production over the last several weeks of the season with Jackson on the sideline. "I think the coaches knew what I was capable of doing, just had a guy (Jackson) playing at a pro-bowl level", said Spiller. One of the interesting conversations heading into next year will be what the Bills do with both Jackson and Spiller, with both showing they are capable of carrying the load. "We gotta good 1-2 punch. Maybe the best in the NFL if you know how to use it.", said Spiller. The first round pick was used sparingly in the running game, and then as a wide receiver for parts of the early season so I asked him if he'd be OK with being utilized in a similar role next season with both him and Fred back. "What sitting on the sideline??? If that's what they want to do that's what I have to do. It's like having a diamond in the rough on the sideline", said Spiller

-On the injury front Bills Tight End Scott Chandler was scheduled to have an MRI done on the knee injury he suffered against the Patriots, He didn't believe he would require surgery. Chandler is set to become an unrestricted free agent but expressed a desire to be back with the Bills next season.

-Bills NT Kyle Williams says the walking boot on his foot was removed last week, He's back in a tennis shoe. Williams says he won't be able to run for 2-3 months but has begun working out. Williams hopes to be able to participate in OTA's, if not he expects to be ready for the start of training camp.

-Bills Center Eric Wood says rehab on his knee injury is going well. Wood hopes to be ready for the start of training camp.

-Bills LB Chris Kelsay was asked if he is expecting coaching changes especially on the defense side following a tough year for the unit.
"I know that every year coaching staffs change", said Kelsay. Even winning teams alter their staffs in some form. If that's the case for us we will rally around it. Place our confidence in Buddy and Chan. It's the nature of the business. production based business. If you are not winning you are not going to be around.
