I love spring in Buffalo. I love the smiles on faces on the first truly sunny day. I love watching people trying to force the most out of 46 degrees. I went for a walk with my wife and five month old son Henry on Saturday through the Elmwood Village. Everywhere you looked people were out jogging, skateboarding, grilling. April is a great time in Buffalo. Oh yes, and the sports.

April fools day has come and gone, and the Buffalo Sabres appear far from a joke. Three games left in the regular season and Lindy Ruff and company control their playoff destiny. That's amazing to me. The Sabres have gone 25-11-6 since the first of the year to run back up the Eastern Conference Standings. There has been a new enthusiasm under new owner Terry Pegula. Players appear inspired, and barring a complete collapse, playoff hockey will be abuzz once again here in Western New York. It's a great time of year.

Early April also means the NFL draft is now just weeks away, and it can't come soon enough. The lockout is now 24 days old. There are no off-season workouts to talk about, but we know the Buffalo Bills will still pick third overall come April 28th. The debate as to what Buddy Nix and Chan Gailey should do is picking up, and I love it. Offense or Defense. Cam Newton or Blaine Gabbert. Von Miller or Marcell Dareus. Buddy Nix recently said at the "State of the Bills" event in downtown Buffalo that every team lies this time of year. Only 10 percent of what is said is true. That's part of the fun.

Everyone has opinion on what the Bills should do. Here's mine in a nutshell.. (we have a draft special coming up on April 27th for the extended version haha) Go defense at #3... help against the run or help the pass rush.. or both. Take your quarterback at #34.

The Bisons season opener is also now just days away. A new manager in Tim Teufel. A new scoreboard. A new season. It all gets going on April 7th at Coca-Cola Field. Baseball is back.

It should be a great April here in Buffalo.
