I'm BACK!! And it feels soooo good! Last week I was taking one of my final treatments, a radioactive iodine treatment that is supposed to kill off any thyroid cells not removed by the surgery. The only thing was that I had to stay in isolation for a few days as not to contaminate anyone around me. My husband understood, but not my dog! He was not a happy camper for those few days. Anyway, while I was scanned after that treatment, I was given the good news that my scan showed no other trace of cancer in my body. HOORAY! It's been a long 10 months but the good news was worth it. Now I'll have scans every few months to stay on top of things. This way if anything does reappear, we'll catch it in it's early stage. My voice is getting stronger but it still is weaker than I'm used to. The other things about this situation is that my breathing is irregular. Since my vocal cords do not close all the way, much more air is used when I speak, so you run out of breath faster. (Not good if you are in the "voice" business.) Also, swallowing liquids is still a challenge. If I don't consciously think before I swallow, it's liable to go down the wrong way and I cough for 5 minutes. So...I'm still taking vocal therapy and I'm planning to see a specialist who does a procedure to fix it. We'll see what it's all about. In the meantime, it's great to be back, great that the Bills are winning and great that the Sabres season is underway! I'll write again soon..but in the meantime..ladies, make that mammo appointment! me
