He knocked at my door one night. A college student from Minnesota selling children's books door-to-door. He said it was a summer internship to help him learn people skills.
He already was affable enough, shrewdly mentioning he spoke with my neighbors to enhance his credibility. But it's what he said off-the-cuff that nearly knocked me for a loop.
When I asked how he liked being in Western New York, he said it was much better than he expected. He said he was told to prepare for a lot of rain and not a lot of sun.
Really? Who would say that? Then, I got mad.
Now, I understand we've had a couple of rainy summers in the past 17 years since I moved back to the Buffalo area, but a majority, almost all of them, have been beautiful.
Why do people say bad things about this area that JUST AREN'T TRUE?
If you read one of my earlier blogs, you know that the Buffalo area has more sunny days than Orlando. Yes, that's Orlando, Florida, in the Sunshine State!
If people are that miserable living here, why don't they just move. Then, they can bring their negative attitude somewhere else!
Luckily, the young man decided to make his own judgment about the area. He said he was really enjoying his time here.
And that's probably the best lesson he's going to learn this summer!
