It's the oldest trick in the book. You see it in schoolyards and among gossipy teenagers, but lots of adults do it, too, and no one does it quite as well as politicians. I'm talking about knocking someone to make yourself look better.

It's the biggest sign of insecurity out there, and now we learn even a prominent billionaire businessman turned big time mayor needs to use it.

Yes, Mayor Michael Bloomberg throwing Buffalo under the bus in his effort to impress housing developers in the Big Apple.

Mayor Bloomberg told the group, "Our city's problems are problems of success. We don't have enough classrooms. We don't have enough roads. We don't have enough housing. If you go to other cities, they don't have those problems. There's an awful lot of free space up in Buffalo, New York, if you want to go there. I don't think you do."

Yes, there is a lot of free space up here in Buffalo. It's no secret we've lost population and missed much of the economic boom. But, the truth is, lots of developers do want to come here.

Land and housing are cheap. Much cheaper than New York City, that apparently has only "problems of success". Ask anyone in the worst neighborhoods of the Bronx or Brooklyn if they're feeling the "success".

The point is if New York City really only has "problems of success", why do you have to knock Buffalo in the same sentence?

No doubt there are great things about New York City. World class fashion, entertainment, landmarks, and restaurants. But big cities bring big inconveniences, so for me, Buffalo is the way to go. I like the cost of living and the quality of life here and the drive from the city to the suburbs is under 20 minutes.

And, Mayor Bloomberg, we know how to handle our snow. A lesson you and unfortunately, the people you represent learned the hard way this winter.

Yes, it's easy to bash Buffalo Mr. Mayor, but as they say to bullies everywhere, why don't you pick on someone your own size!
