Folks it is March! Wow, I guess time flies while your having fun. Hopefully spring is right around the corner!
With the weather changing that means summer movie season is right around the corner. And bring on the blockbusters!!! Captain America: The Winter Soldier starts the whole “popcorn flick” thing I believe, and I can’t wait.
With that said, let’s lake another look back at the Oscars, brought to you here on Channel 7 Sunday night ;). Granted, I didn’t see most of the movies, but the ones I did see seemed to get a snub. American Hustle’s cast left without a statue, but how can you compete with what the two guys in Dallas Buyers Club went through to get into character? Well deserved, fellas. Still, Christian Bale went through quite the transformation as well.
In all, another year, another movie awards season in the books. If you want a good laugh and “ahh-hah” moment if you’re a movie nerd like me, check out this link- thanks GMA for the suggestion!
Don’t get me wrong, I love “The Big Game,” it is the greatest sporting event that I look forward to every year. And the MLB All Star Game is usually the highlight of my summer, but I also love movies.
So with that said, I can’t wait to see how the Oscars shake out. I’m not talking about the fashion or Red Carpet shows; I’m talking about the performances receiving the accolades they deserve (both in front of and behind the camera).
Usually I'm a lot better about checking out most of the nominees for best picture at least. This year I’m slacking; all I saw was American Hustle and Captain Phillips. Both were great in my opinion- topping it off are the performances. Tom Hanks (snub!) and Barkhad Abdi were phenomenal. Then there is the “Hustle” cast- all wows! Bale (Batman with a comb-over), Adams, Cooper, Renner, etc were all incredible (of and Jennifer Lawrence is amazing in her role!).
But how about the films that were overlooked in my opinion? Like I said, I did not see most of the movies nominated. But……… I have to say Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson should have been nominated for their roles in Saving Mr. Banks. Harrison Ford should of received a nomination for 42. Don’t judge- but I think films such as Ironman 3 should have got some love for the sound categories. Granted I’m no expert, just an IMDB junkie.
Movies I saw this year, or at least the ones I can remember (in-between a cross-country move and having a kid):
-Saving Mr. Banks
Remember, you can catch the Oscars on March 2nd right here on Channel 7. And catch us all week long on Good Morning for special segments leading up to this weekend's show.
What a great start to the month!!!! On the last day of January my wife and I welcomed our son Matthew into this world. Both mom and baby are doing well. As all you parents know, having your own child in your life is such a blessing. I know that feeling now too. Matt is such a blessing, and it is such an amazing and surreal feeling knowing I’m his dad. I look at him and think to myself, “that’s not A kid, he’s YOUR kid.” I can’t wait to see how each day unfolds with him in our lives, and be his dad.
Any parenting pointers?
Snow….Snow…. SNOW!!! OK, so while it isn’t necessarily “snow-pocalypse,” there sure is a lot of white stuff on the ground. The downtown area looks great, and thankfully our plow crews are good at their job.
For me snow (or at least the first fall- ask me again in January) is a sign of a new beginning- a new season, the end of a year and the start of something new in our area.
Snow itself is still something of an anomaly to me though. I’ve spent most of my life in Arizona (I’ve still never skied or snowboarded yet), so the concept of an annual snow is still something new.
Over the years in my career I have had my fair share of snow. First in Missouri, where it didn’t fall that often- but when it did, it came with a vengeance. Then in Washington state, more snow, colder temperatures but it still didn’t stick around as much. Most of it would melt, but some would stick around and turn into that gross black stuff on the side of the road. Now its time to see Buffalo’s snow first hand. I got my first real taste today, and I’m sure more is in store.
Thanks for stopping by!
Good Morning! I can’t believe it’s November already. They always say once Halloween hits; both the holiday season and the year come and go quickly. And boy, are they right! This year is a little different, and unbelievably extraordinary- once the holiday season comes and goes, and 2014 arrives, the most incredible moment of my life is here- fatherhood.
I’m so excited to join the club all you moms and dads get to be a part of. Last weekend; my wife and I took a class about what to expect on our due date of Feb. 1st- and man were my eyes opened. There is so much to know, and my role in all of this doesn’t even come close to what the “wifey’s” going to go through. Our son (can’t believe I get to say that, AMAZING), is such a blessing and both of us are so excited and ready to meet him.
I’d love any words of advice, tips and encouragement you parents out there may have. Please email them to me (firstname.lastname@example.org), facebook (https://www.facebook.com/ColeHeathNews?ref=tn_tnmn) or tweet me (@coleheath). I may even share these on the air, so please make sure its something “mama” would approve of.
I’ll see you on “Good Morning” from 5-7am on Channel 7; and I’ll keep you updated about “our little man’s” progress as Feb. 1st comes closer.
