Our current exhibit at our North Hall facility features documents and ephemera relating to the 1939 Wizard of Oz film. Come follow the yellow brick road, and see how the L. Frank Baum novel became the classic, beloved musical adventure film.
Open Thursday - Saturday from 11AM until 4PM
The noted documents include:
-The lyrics for Somewhere Over the Rainbow written by E. Y. “Yip” Harburg.
-Judy Garland’s first personnel record with the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Corporation.
-Two strands of straw used on the actual scarecrow costume worn by Ray Bolger in the film.
-A letter from Margaret Hamilton, the Wicked Witch of the West, stating she did not hurt Toto the dog.
-A letter from the studio discussing the trouble with the cast members playing the munchkins, including an attempted murder charge!
