It's 'ale' in a day's work.

With the craft beer industry booming in Buffalo, 12 Gates Brewery is one of the largest brewers in WNY.

Micro-breweries like 12 Gates have a special advantage of being very unique with their beer, separating them from macro-breweries who typically produce mainstay lagers.

12 Gates specializes in seasonal rotation flavors such as apricot wheat for spring, cherry vanilla wheat for summer, and an elderberry wheat in fall and winter.

Brewmaster Scott Shuler says, "We're always tinkering with something new, new IPAs, new pale ales. Whatever we come up with, we'll produce on our pilot system and put it on draft only here in our tasting room."

The craft beer industry has ushered a resurgence in Buffalo's social scene and economy.

Shuler says, "With Buffalo being a huge shipping area and all the grain silos, with grain you can make beer. Buffalo kept that culture and heritage. We'll see more breweries pop up and Buffalo is able to held that."

The local brewery cranks out about 930 gallons per batch and can push out around 5,000 barrels in a few days.

Schuler says, "Buffalo likes to drink beer. Whether it's the harsh winters or the beautiful summers, there's always an excuse to sit down for a pint."

Cheers!
