Assemblyman Ray Walter (R,C,I-Amherst) recently joined Senator Michael Ranzenhofer, the New York State and National Physical Therapy Associations, and Daemen College officials to announce a major change in New York state law allowing New York colleges and universities that grant Doctor of Physical Therapy degrees to form physical therapy faculty practices throughout the state of New York.
According to a news release:
The participants gathered at Daemen College’s Research and Information Commons to discuss how the legislation, of which Walter is a co-sponsor, will increase access to quality, affordable healthcare in Western New York.
“This legislation will provide physical therapy students with the hands-on training experience they need to become the best medical professionals they can be, expanding access to top-notch healthcare for Western New Yorkers both immediately and in the long term,” said Walter. “The bipartisan approach taken to passing this bill shows how well state government can function when a matter as important as improving local healthcare hangs in the balance. I thank Senator Ranzenhofer and my colleagues in state government for seeing this legislation through, and I commend both Daemen College and all the participating organizations for their tireless, impassioned advocacy.”
The legislation, which passed both the state Senate and Assembly unanimously, now awaits Governor Cuomo’s signature.
