(WKBW/Cleveland Clinic) Many of us think we're doing the right thing by looking for food labels that read "reduced fat" or "multigrain", but there a lots of so-called "healthy" food you'd be better, leaving off your diet plan.
When it comes to making a salad, dietitians say there are better choices than iceberg lettuce!
Registered Dietitian Denise Cole of the Cleveland Clinic says, "Iceberg lettuce actually has very little nutritional value. It's mostly water, so if you're looking to get good vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals, you want to look at darker, greener lettuces, like romaine, and spinach, and kale."
Dietitians also say don't go for reduced-fat peanut butter. The fat that is removed is the fat you get from the peanut, which is good for you. All that is left are extra calories and sugar.
The same goes for vitamin water.
Dietitians say you are better off getting your vitamins from the food you eat because vitamin waters are just sugary drinks that will add unwanted calories, and dietitians say energy bars are just glorified candy bars.
They contain extra protein and some vitamins and minerals, but she says they're also packed with lots of sugar, fat and extra calories.
And dietitians say sea salt is no better for you than table salt.
