(WKBW/Cleveland Clinic) Have the kids brought more than their homework with them from school?
It's cold and flu season!
Doctors say to lower your child's risk of picking up the flu at school, start by teaching them the basics.
According to Dr. Ellen Rome of the Cleveland Clinic, flu season can hit before the Christmas holiday or after, and run all the way through spring break.
She says when you have the flu at your school, teach your child to wash their hands often.
But Dr. Rome says kids don't have to run to the bathroom to wash their hands every time they touch something.
She says parents can can pack some anti-bacterial gel or wipes in their backpack.
The other thing Dr. Rome says you can teach your kids is to "catch" their coughs and sneezes in their sleeve.
The idea is to get them away from sneezing and coughing into their hands. That's an easy way to pass a virus to other people.
