(WKBW/Cleveland Clinic) It's back to school time and that means flu season will soon be here.
The American Academy of Pediatrics is reminding parents to get your son or daughter the flu shot, even if they got one last year.
Doctors say it's important for children to receive a dose every year for the best protection against the virus.
Pediatricians recommend all children 6 months and older get the flu shot.
It protects against the same three influenza strains as last
year's vaccine, but a person's immunity drops by as much as 50 percent, 6-12 months after the vaccination.
The good news is if your child got a flu shot last year they will need only 1 dose of this year's vaccine.
Children under age nine who have never had a flu shot before will need 2 doses of this year's vaccine, given about a month apart.
Doctors say kids age 2 and up have the option of getting the nasal spray and not the needle.
