Time To Get Your Flu Shot

Story Updated: Oct 2, 2012

(WKBW) It won't be long now before the sniffling, sneezing, coughing, aches and pains of the flu start popping up.

Flu season typically runs from October through May, and this year, health officials say the swine flu is making a comeback, so they are encouraging everyone to get vaccinated against the virus.

Most healthy people can recover from the flu, but the virus can be deadly, especially for the young, those over age 50, pregnant women and those with a weakened immunity.

Last year in New York, more than 1100 people were hospitalized with the flu, and one child died.

That's why state health officials say it's important to get a shot. It can also help prevent the spread of the flu that's highly contagious.
