Story Updated: Sep 13, 2012

(WKBW) Hundreds of walkers will be coming out to Delaware Park this weekend to help raise awareness of depression and suicide.

A person dies by suicide every 15 minutes in this country, claiming thousands of lives every year and taking an enormous toll on loved ones left behind.

The money raised here will go toward programs in the WNY community, teaching people about the warning signs and the mental illnesses that can lead to suicide and providing support for survivors of suicide loss.

Join the "Out of the Darkness Community Walk" in Buffalo. It steps off Saturday, September 15th in Delaware Park, near the Buffalo Zoo at 10:30 a.m.

Click on News Links to register for the walk and get more information or you are welcome to register for the walk in-person Saturday, starting at 8:30 a.m.

If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health issues, there are people who can help. Contact Crisis Services 24-hour hotline at 834-3131.
