Let Up On The Salt!

(WKBW/Cleveland Clinic) Do you ever wonder why restaurant food sometimes tastes better than what you make at home?
It may be the salt content.
There are certain restaurant foods that tend to have more sodium than others.
Denise Cole, registered dietitian at the Cleveland Clinic says,"Some red flags in restaurants for sodium would be things like soups. Restaurant soups tend to be very high in sodium. Then, if you start looking at
your sauces, gravy, Alfredo sauces, things like that, they make them taste good with salt."
Salad dressings can be another salty culprit. Experts suggest trying lemon or vinegar on your salad instead.
If you're in the mood for Mexican, watch out for the tortilla chips. They can
also be high in salt.
Dietary guidelines recommend no more than 2,300 milligrams of sodium each day for adults.
High sodium levels are linked to high blood pressure, heart disease and stroke, so if you're watching your salt intake, experts say look for simple menu items with fewer ingredients.
