Buffalo, N.Y. (WKBW) – Tailgating is just as fun as the game for many Buffalo Bills fans. There are healthier options when it comes to eating before the game.
Experts at the Cleveland Clinic said instead of reaching for one of those delicious chicken wings, reach for a chicken kabob. They said you can still add some hot sauce but no butter. They also suggest adding vegetables to the meal. This will cut down on salt and staturated fats.
These experts also say ditch the white pasta. When making pasta salad use 100 percent whole wheat macaroni. This could cut down your risk of Coranary Artery Disease.
They said you should avoid tackling too many snacks at these tailgate parties. A little here, a little there can add up to big calories.
If you do snack, there are some healthy choices including wheat crackers and air popped popcorn. They also suggest a potato bar for an appetizer station. Making these alterations, especially with the meat, you are sure to have a tasty and health tailgate.
“If for example you swap out some chicken breast for meat kabob you can save significant calories and fat even sodium. You can add veggies and that hels to up the nutrients,” Cleveland Clinic Dr. Kristin Kirkpatrick said.
The experts suggest that you prepare the food the night before and bring it to the game with all the sides. They said you are sure to have a tasty treat for the game.
