(WKBW/ABC) The number of kidney stone cases has steadily climbed over the past 30 years. Doctors aren't sure why, but now say a new diet may help.

The diet called DASH, includes foods like fruits, vegetables, nuts, and dairy products, and calls for low amounts of red meat and sugary drinks.

It's a diet that is used to lower high blood pressure, but doctors have found that the combination of foods may also help reduce the risk of kidney stones.

Doctors say the higher water content in the DASH diet is what may help.
