(WKBW) A bill restricting the sale of ipecac syrup has now passed both the Assembly and the Senate in the New York State Legislature.
Sponsored by Assemblyman Sam Hoyt and Senator Patrick Gallivan, the bill requires ipecac to only be available behind the counter to help stop misuse of the product.
Ipecac is used to induce vomiting for medical reasons, like if a child has drank a poisonous substance, but it has become more frequently used by people with eating disorders to keep their weight down.
