(WKBW) Erie County is teaming up with Upstate New York Transplant Services to beef up the blood donations in the Western New York area.
Today, a blood drive was held at the Rath Building in Buffalo, the first of four that will be held at the county office building this year.
Demand for blood is high in the summertime. Donations are down because people are on vacation, and the need is greater because of a spike in accidents.
UNYTS supplies blood to the Kaleida Health system, Erie County Medical Center and hospitals in Niagara and Wyoming counties, so all the blood donated locally is processed here and is used here.
Just one pint of blood can save up to three local lives. For more information on UNYTS blood drives, click on News Links.
