Who Are the Worst Drivers?

For decades, data from police departments and insurance companies have made it clear: Teenage males are the most aggressive, dangerous drivers on the road. But now, that's starting to change, especially among beginning drivers.

It seems girls are worse drivers than they used to be. According to the University of California at Irvine, girls are getting into more crashes and fatal wrecks than 10 years ago. But the accident rates for boys have stayed about the same. Today girls are also more likely to drink and drive, talk on a cell phone and not wear a seatbelt than a few years ago.

Experts say before all teenagers are allowed to drive, parents need to make a tough decision: how responsible is your child? And before you let them drive on their own, drive with them. Also, because teenage girls are driving more miles and having more accidents, insurance rates for them are going up.
