When the weather gets warm, kids pull out their bikes, swim in the pool and sometimes help around the yard. This makes summer the deadliest time of year for children. Bike rides can lead to accidents, unsupervised swimming can result in drownings, and lawnmowers can give some serious injuries. So, how can you keep your kids safe during the summer?

According to the Centers for Disease Control, `unintentional injuries' are the leading cause of death for children in the America. When the weather turns warm and school lets out, those numbers spike. In fact, according to the nonprofit group `safe kids,' between May and August, 17 children will die every single day. In addition to this, another 2.4 million children will end up in the emergency room.

Experts say to keep your kids safe, make them wear a helmet, always wear a seat belt, keep them hydrated and covered in sunscreen. Also, because drownings increase by 90 percent in the summer, teach them how to swim. Experts add that no safety device is a replacement for parental supervision.
