Cheaters Have New Hi-Tech Tool

Students are one step ahead of teachers in the technology war. Most schools have now banned cell phones because some students use them to cheat during tests. But, cheaters have found a new hi-tech weapon: IPods.

The latest IPods display word documents. Some students will take advantage of this feature and download "cheat" sheets to them. Other kids will speak the answers into their IPods and then play them back during a test. According to the Josephson Institute of Ethics, 60 percent of kids admit to cheating on tests. Even more say they've copied someone else's homework.

Cheating with an IPod may be growing, but it's not widespread yet. First, because not everyone has the latest IPod. Second, because cheating takes work.

Schools have a new weapon of their own. Many teachers are now using services like turn it in.com to check for plagerism on essays.
