When today's teens talk about what they want to be when they grow up, the answer that is becoming more common than ever is: My own boss.
More teens than ever are tapping into their entrepreneurial spirit.
According to a new junior achievement survey, 71 percent of teens say they would like to be self-employed some day. What's more, experts say kids have a huge advantage as entrepreneurs because they know the web. More specifically, they're familiar with network sites like facebook and myspace.
Experts says parents should encourage entrepreneurship in their kid, whether it's moving lawns or an online business. They may not make millions, but they will learn a lot about managing a business and turning a profit. Experts say one of the drawbacks of having your teen start their own business is that it could become all-consuming and they may begin to neglect other responsibilities, like homework. But with careful time management and parental involvement, there's no reason a teen can't manage an independent business and keep up their grades.
