It's hard for anyone with a broken leg to stay off their feet for as long as Doctors recommend, especially active teenagers. But, it is essential for proper healing.
Lewis McClendon broke his femur in a car accident about a month ago. He now has metal rods in his leg, holding his thighbone together. But, he recently slipped off his crutches and accidentally put all his weight on his bad leg. Lewis went straight to the Doctor's office, where he got both good and bad news. After getting fresh X-rays, his Doctor found that there is no new fracture and the rods are still in place. The bad news: fluid is in his knee. Luckily, the solution is simple: elevate the knee to drain off the fluid and take motrin for the pain. The doctor says for kids on crutches, the lesson is simple: stay off your feet as much as you can.
