Buffalo, N.Y. (WKBW)- Buffalo's Outer Harbor is owned by the NFTA but now may be sold to another group for a bargain price.
There are two groups interested in the property including the City of Buffalo and the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation. Now, Congressman Brian Higgins is calling for the 384 acres of land to be sold to one of the groups for two dollars.
The chunk of property along the Outer Harbor is worth more than 10 million dollars. It stretches from the northern point where the old Pier Restaurant used to stand to Gallahger Beach. In between, there are two port terminals, a lot of undeveloped land and the popular Small Boat Harbor.
All this future change has the people on edge, worried about the public access to the land.
"People should know that there will not be any disruption to the enjoyment. We would like to see it in the hand of a municipal entity that is experienced with waterfront development and responsible to the public," NFTA Chairman Howard Zemsky said.
The NFTA has announced that it is getting out of the waterfront business, altogether. Now, they want the proposals by the end of the week. The deal will be completed in 2013, maybe as early as the summertime.
Higgins will be making his call for the land to be sold for just two dollars Monday morning at 10:30 a.m.
