BUFFALO, NY (Business First) - Accelerate Upstate 2.0, an economic development summit to gauge employers’ opinions on current and future initiatives to grow the Upstate New York economy, will be held Jan. 29 at Buffalo Niagara Convention Center.
Hosted by Buffalo Niagara Partnership and sponsored by M&T Bank, the event follows the original Accelerate Upstate summit, held Aug. 4 and 5 last year. There, area economic development experts collaborated to create a plan for the region’s future. The conference received national media attention and resulted in the Accelerate Upstate Action Agenda, which was a starting point for the Western New York Regional Economic Development Council, whose five-year plan earned more than $100 million in resources for projects across the region.
Political pollster, author and Western New York native John Zogby has been commissioned to poll employers leading up to the event. He’ll present his findings in a keynote address. The findings will be used to identify means for economic developers to match evolving private sector needs as they move forward.
James McConeghy, chief financial officer of Chobani, Inc., will detail his organization’s experiences doing business in New York State. Chobani, one of several yogurt producers to announce major expansion plans in the region, employs more than 1,200 in New York.
Accelerate Upstate 2.0 will be webcast in real time, and those interested can follow it at the Partnership’s Facebook and Twitter accounts using the hashtag #Accelerate.
The event is scheduled to run from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the convention center. The webcast is available to the general public.
