BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - Three Buffalo firefighters were sent to hospitals Tuesday night from the scene of a house fire in the city's Kaisertown Neighborhood.
"One is burned, one has a dog bite," said Division Chief Don McFeely. "We got a dog out and it bit one of the members of Truck Five."
Other firefighter collapsed from exhaustion, most likely due to the high temperatures, which were in the mid-80's at the time of the fire.
The call came in just after 6 p.m. to the home on Weiss Street off Clinton Street.
A number of other pets were also rescued from the burning home, including two cats and a lizard. Damage is estimated at $50,000.
A cause is under investigation, McFeely said.
Extra crews were called to the scene as a precaution so firefighters could be rotated and rest in the intense heat.
"We encourage guys right off the bat when they come on shift -- in fact even at home -- to drink a lot of water to start themselves because again this equipment we have on, it holds the heat in and with a humid day like this here within a few minutes the guys get knocked down pretty fast," McFeely said.
