Dr. Mary McConnell is a licensed Clinical Social Worker and certified gambling treatment counselor at the Jewish Family Service of Buffalo and Erie County.
She has warned her clients to stay away from other gamblers avoid superbowl parties and anything else that may trigger a relapse.
McConnell says this is one of the hardest times of year for a sports gambler.
She says the only thing that stops a compulsive gambler is running out of money.
"They've lost everything they're sleeping in their car that's how bad it can get," said Dr. McConnell.
McConnell says she has had patients as young as 13 and as old as 85.
Some people might be surprised to learn that gamblers are more likely to commit suicide than people suffering from any other addiction.
