Buffalo, NY (WKBW) - A special hearing regarding the state's strict new gun law is on tap for Wednesday in Albany.
The State Supreme Court will hear arguments for and against the NY SAFE Act.
The state must show that the SAFE Act is constitutional. If it does not, the justice may impose an injunction upon the legislation.
The hearing comes out of a petition signed by more than 1,200 New Yorkers from almost every county against the NY SAFE Act.
The petition alleges that state lawmakers violated New York's constitution by rushing the legislation through the State Legislature without a three day waiting period.
Wednesday's hearing comes just one day before many of the provisions of the new gun law are set to go into effect.
Hamburg attorney James Tresmond has also filed two lawsuits against Governor Cuomo and the State of New York because of the NY SAFE Act.
