AMHERST, NY (WKBW-TV) - New York State Assemblyman Ray Walter (R,C,I-Amherst) is calling on New York State Education Commissioner John King, Jr. to resign. Walter says the State mishandled the implementation of the new Common Core initiative.
“After Commissioner King's unresponsive testimony at the education budget hearings and his doubling-down on the current policies surrounding Common Core he has clearly lost touch with the students, parents, teachers and administrators in the State,” said Walter. “I stand behind the recent vote of no confidence by NYSUT. I am calling on Commissioner King to be removed and for the Board of Regents to find a replacement with the ability to be responsive to the needs of our children, parents and educators.”
