BUFFALO, NY, July 20, 2013 –The American Red Cross, Serving Erie & Niagara Counties is closing the shelter at North Tonawanda High School, 405 Meadow Drive in North Tonawanda. No clients have sought assistance at the shelter, but Disaster Services personnel remain in contact with Emergency Management officials from across the area and remain ready to assist area residents as needed.
“I want to thank all of our staff and volunteers for responding so quickly to help our neighbors in need after last night’s storms,” said Kenneth Turner, Chief Disaster Officer for the American Red Cross, WNY and Finger Lakes Regions.
Meanwhile, Disaster Action Team (DAT) volunteers provided vouchers for temporary housing and food to three adults and a child after a fire on LaSalle Avenue in Niagara Falls Saturday afternoon, and assisted six people after two separate incidents in Buffalo and Lackawanna overnight.
Anyone wishing to help people affected by floods, fires and other disasters is asked to make a donation to the Disaster Relief Fund by calling 1-800-REDCROSS, visiting www.redcross.org or texting the word REDCROSS to 90999 to charge a $10 donation to their cell phone bill.
