Buffalo, N.Y. (WKBW) - It's that time of year, once again, for packages, boxes and bows. For many shoppers, including Dorothy Solemon, It is also the season for Layaway.
"In this economy, everything is so expensive and I can't pay so I like this Layaway because I have plenty of time to get it out," Solemon said.
At Kmart, Layaway helps people pay for things like clothes and the always popular TV's and video games with a payment plan that has no fees attached.
Store Manager Rick Hinkle said the no fee policy is one big difference between Layaway and charging gifts on a credit card.
"It allows shoppers to make selections early and pay them off in eight or 12 weeks depending on the amount of the layaway," Hinkle said.
Hinkle said that's not all. The store is offering another special promotions that could save consumers hundreds of dollars.
"We also have a sweepstakes going that we pay off the balance of their layaway bill," Hinkle said.
Along with clothes and electronics, a lot of toys are being put on Layaway. There area some blasts from the past, including the Easy Bake Oven and the Furby doll.
Kmart is just one of many stores offering Layaway this holiday season. Others include Walmart, Toys-r-us, Best Buy, Sears, Hallmark, Marshall's and TJ Maxx.
Solemon said she buys for her daughters and Layaway allows her to get the things they really want. She also has one Christmas wish for herself this year.
"I hope Kmart keeps Layaway because they have a lot of things here that I love," Solemon said.
