BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) - Dozens of cancer patients and survivors spent the day grooming, riding, and loving the horses at Buffalo Therapeutic Riding Center on Sunday.
It was all part of "Stephen's Fun Day" sponsored by Stephen A. Comunale Jr. Family Cancer Foundation in partnership with Carly's Club at Roswell Park Cancer Institute and Guiding for Hope.
Close to 50 children and their families participated in a variety of hands-on activities including learning to groom, ride, and even paint live horses.
"It's a day where we wanted them to forget cancer," said Susie Schoellklpf, Executive Director of Buffalo Therapeutic Center.
Equine therapy has many proven benefits for adults and children including increased self-esteem, improved social skills, and better physical balance.
The Stephen A. Comunale Jr. Family Cancer Foundation is a nonprofit organization that endows an outreach program to provide comfort to cancer patients and their families.
