Buffalo, N.Y. (WKBW) - National Gasoline prices recently fell about five cents in the last two weeks to $3.43, reflecting the lower demand. That is why many people will be taking to the roads for Thanksgiving travel. Don't be fooled, though, by the decrease. Gas prices this Thanksgiving are higher than ever.
The average price is still six cents higher than this time last year. Nevertheless, that is not stopping people from hitting the road. About 90 percent of those going out of town for the holiday said they would do it by car. Many people are staying closer to home when they travel. The average trip is dropping from more than 700 miles in 2011 to 588 miles this year.
"They're still going to visit family in friends but they're going to Syracuse to visit grandma, instead of Florida to visit auntie. We're seeing closer to home trips," AAA Spokesperson Steve Pacer said.
If you have a choice to adjust your travel, AAA officials advise people to travel Tuesday or Thursday. They said on Wednesday the roads will be jammed packed.
