CHEEKTOWAGA (WKBW) Two men, a business proposal, and an empty tank of gas. That is how Dave Clabeaux and Ben Moskel got to the success they now enjoy, after a good samaritan and military veteran loaned a hand with a gallon of gas, refusing repayment.
On Saturday the two paid it forward by giving away free gas.
Every car that came to the Red Top Market from 12-2pm Saturday afternoon received ten dollars of free gas, courtesy of the two businessmen that wanted to give back.
"It makes you feel good to do something like this. We've been very fortunate in our business and where we've gotten today, and so it just feels good to say thank you to those who have helped us get here," Dave Clabeaux said.
"I hope there's a little more in this gesture than just the actual gas itself. I hope they remember that and when they have the opportunity to do that, that they just also help out a little, pay it forward," Ben Moskel added.
And the response was overwhelming. Those in line for gas called the idea "great," "awesome," and that "everyone needs free gas."
But the business partners weren't done yet. They offered double the free gas, twenty dollars worth, to members of the military and veterans.
"What they do is incredible. I know I couldn't do it, so it is just a way to say thank you," Clabeaux said.
As gas prices continue to rise across the country, giving it away for free is just the latest example of the Western New York community giving back.
"I've met some nice people in my life, but Ben and Dave, i've never met nice people like that. Just so helpful and sincere, and and you can just tell they're good people," gas station owner Sharif Shaibi said.
