Buffalo, N.Y. (WKBW)- All across the country, doctors' offices and emergency rooms are being overwhelmed with people suffering from the flu.
Even small children are getting sick. In some cases, it is so serious the kids are hospitalized. The illness is not only hitting the young and the elderly. Even the strongest and the healthiest people are being knocked down by the flu this season.
Doctors said they have not seen this many cases since the Swine Flu outbreak in 2009. At one hospital in Ohio, 863 people have been hospitalized from the flu compared to only 68 people at this time last year.
"It's been an epidemic with more admissions than ever," One Doctors said.
There are ways to prevent getting sick. First and foremost, get the flu shot. Experts said even if you get sick with the shot, it wouldn't last as long. Also, be sure to clean your hands and anything they touch, including phones and keyboards. Lastly, build your immunity by getting enough sleep, exercise and vitamin D.
Doctors suggest getting the flu shot now. There is still time with nearly five weeks left in the flu season.
