TONAWANDA, NY (WBKW) - First responders battle fires, medical emergencies, and lately, the deep freeze.
"I have a turtleneck on, another turtleneck, and a few other sweaters on underneath," said EMT Gina Kalliantasis from Twin City Ambulance in Tonawanda.
First responders not only have to protect themselves from the elements, but also the people they are taking care of.
"Just trying to keep the exposure down as much as possible. Trying to keep them warm while we have to care for them," said Paramedic Wendy Tremblett.
"Obviously, if there's metal or something like that they're going to be colder this time of year," she said.
