Buffalo, NY (WKBW) - A local attorney has filed a class action lawsuit against the State of New York.
James Tresmond has begun the legal process by filing the necessary paperwork at the State Supreme Court in Buffalo.
Tesmond and his clients believe the New York SAFE Act restricts the second amendment rights of gun owners.
"We want to strike the law. We want to make sure that the rights of 1.5 million gun owners in the State of New York are protected," Tresmond says. "They're not with the law. Their rights, I would say, are just thrown aside."
The next step will be to notify the parties named in the suit. That includes Governor Cuomo, Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos, and the New York State Police.
