At the East Meets West Yoga Studio, they're teaching that you are never too old or too young to work out!

Heather Allen wanted a way to help her five and a half month old son Noah socialize and relax. Heather took him to the itsy bitsy yoga class. She told Eyewitness News, "It helps with his 3 hour nap after. We are socializing and not crawling over each other exchanging germs."

Teacher Sara Drum says there are many benefits to starting a yoga practice as a baby. She explained, "I think it's a wonderful bonding activity for parents and their babies. They're focused on play and embodiment exercises, getting them to stretch their arms and toes."

Sarah uses a baby doll to teach Moms and kids the yoga positions. A few years ago she was bringing her own babies to class. She says infants pick up the movements quickly. "They really start to remember and learn after a couple of weeks. At only 2-3 weeks old they learn what comes next. My kids started doing baby yoga and they still do yoga at ages 3 and 5," noted Sarah.

Heather noted that practicing yoga offers many benefits, "It's my sanity. It Si great exercise control in times of stress."

Of course, it is important to check with your doctor or pediatrician before engaging in any exercise program.

I can attest to the benefits of Itsy Bitsy Yoga. My daughter and I started the classes when she was 2 months old (she is now 6 months) and she loves it. She always takes a super long nap afterwards. A lot of the moves are similar to what you do in infant massage, but IBY involves more rigorous movement. Also, it's really nice to have a chance to interact with other parents whose children are close in age to my daughter. BTW- Prior knowledge of yoga is not necessary to take this class!
