How Not To Overeat On Thanksgiving

Tools

Story Updated: Nov 25, 2009

Beating the Thanksgiving Day belly bulge! It is possible to have a tasty dinner with all your favorites without overdosing on fat and calories.
The key is to choose the foods you eat wisely. First, fill up on vegetables. Start with a green salad or serve raw vegetables as an appetizer, and at dinner make sure veggies take up at least a third of your plate.
Make tradeoffs when it comes to the starches. If you are having potatoes
and stuffing, pass on the buttered roll.
Also, consider skipping or minimizing alcohol, which is often a hidden
source of calories.
Choose one dessert rather than sampling two, and finally -- get up from the table! Lingering in front of food makes us more likely to overeat.
