Genes Linked to Autism Cause

Story Updated: Apr 28, 2009
Researchers are making more headway now, in solving what remains a big mystery, the cause of autism.
Three new studies show that many gene mutations, involved in forming
and maintaining connections in the brain, put people at increased risk for
developing autism.
All three studies were done to find clues about the causes of this
complex disorder by looking at the differences in DNA between people who
have autism and people who do not.
Scientists say genes may change the pattern of brain cell connections in
those with autism.
