- What is the difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist?
- There are many types of mental health professionals. For the most part, psychiatrists treat their patients via the prescribing of medications. On the other hand, psychologists treat their patients by various forms of psychotherapy. Whereas there are indeed psychiatrists who employ psychotherapy in their work, and, in some states, psychologists can prescribe medication; generally speaking psychologists specialize in various forms of verbal and/or behavioral psychotherapies.
- For what types of issues do you provide therapy? Do I have to be crazy to come?
- People consult Dr. Taublieb for various types of issues ranging in severity from everyday stressors to serious mental illness. Parenting problems, relationship issues, family conflict, anxieties, depression, sexual difficulties, obsessive compulsive disorder, addictive issues and legal problems are just a few of the many types of problems addressed by the patients who consult her practice.
- What types of insurance, if any, covers your services?
- Generally, any type of insurance that covers psychiatric treatment will cover Dr. Taublieb’s services as well. Specifically, included among the major insurances accepted by her practice are the following: Blue Shield Traditional, Medicare, Univera, Independent Health, Community Blue, and United Behavioral Health. Other, less well known insurances (specific to certain companies) also cover services to varying extents. Some insurance companies require advance authorization and/or payment of a copay. This needs to be determined prior to the first appointment.

- Various types of testing are administered by Dr. Taublieb including Personality Testing, Intelligence Testing, Substance Abuse Assessments, Parenting Assessments, and Diagnostic Testing. In addition, various assessments as required by the courts are administered addressing issues of custody, relocation and overall competence. Dr. Taublieb is also certified by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles as an Approved Treatment Provider for individuals with alcohol./substance abuse issues.
- How long is a typical session?
- Most individual therapy sessions are approximately 45 minutes in length. However, there is some variance according to the clinical needs of the patient.
- What age groups do you work with?
- Dr. Taublieb works with all age levels ranging from extremely young children to individuals of geriatric age.
- How do I know when I am making progress in therapy?
- Dr. Taublieb prides herself on open, honest communication between she and her patients. Patients are encouraged strongly to verbalize on a regular basis how they are feeling about their therapy experience. Progress in therapy (or lack thereof) is a central topic discussed in the actual therapy session where ideas, questions and overall impressions are shared openly. With respect to termination of therapy, this is typically done gradually with the mutual agreement of Dr. Taublieb and the patient. Whereas no patient is ever forced to leave therapy before he/she is ready, it is Dr. Taublieb’s overall therapeutic goal is to bring the patient to the level where he/she is no longer in need of therapy sessions, accomplishing this in as few sessions as possible.
- What about court mandated therapy and/or assessments?
- This type of service is a major part of Dr. Taublieb’s practice. Because of the nature of the work, there is some variance in procedure with respect to session length, confidentiality issues, fees, and insurance coverage. These procedural issues are highly individualized and are explained to the individual prior to the first meeting.
