Hamburg, N.Y. (WKBW) - The temperatures still may be a bit chilly in Western New York on this first day of spring but the Hamburg Fairground Event Center was heating up with their annual event. Show Chairman Chris Zeisz explains.
“Plantasia is a full landscape and garden show. We have 16 displays you can wander through and get ideas,” Zeisz said.
Zeisz said Plantasia not only showcases beautiful landscapes but it is also for people who may not have a green thumb.
“If you brought in pictures of your garden or questions, there is someone to help you. We even have garden centers where you can purchase things yourself,” Zeisz said.
Kathy Sokolowski is the owner of Menne Nursery in Amherst.
“We do hold classes and anyone displaying here is full of knowledge,” Sokolowski said.
Plantasia is sponsored by the non-profit Plant Western New York. The money raised at the event goes back to a good cause.
“We use that money throughout the community on different landscape projects. We will plant trees or redo landscapes," Zeisz said.
Spring has finally sprung, at least according to the calendar.
“When they come here they really are going to feel like spring. Actually the Plantasia logo is the officials logo of spring,” Zeisz said.
Both Zeisz and Sokolowski said gardeners couldn’t get too eager.
“People get a little excited in April let me plant my stuff but we really never know because mother nature could come back and bite us in the butt,” Zeisz said.
Sokolowsk said now is a planning period.
“This is an excellent time to plan. It’s going to get crazy this year. I think May is going to be really crazy time,” Sokolowski said.
