Buffalo, N.Y. (WKBW release) -- Meals on Wheels for Western New York on Monday announced the appointment of Tara A. Ellis as chief executive officer.

In her new role, Ellis will oversee management and operations of the agency and the Meals on Wheels Foundation of Western New York, Inc. She will start her new position on March 5.

Ellis currently is an independent consultant, working with such organizations as the University at Buffalo, the International Society for Neurovascular Disease and other local businesses and nonprofits. Previously, she has held positions at Hauptman-Woodward Medical Research Institute, M&T Bank, and the New York State Senate.

“We’re excited to have Tara on board, and look forward to the value she will add in providing growth and sustainability to the future of Meals on Wheels,” Paul Enderle, chairman of the board of directors at Meals on Wheels for Western New York said in a news release.

Ellis replaces Paul Nanula, who has served as interim chief executive officer since September 2011.

She joins the organization with an extensive background in community outreach, having served volunteer and board positions at Homespace, Habitat for Humanity, Literacy Volunteers of America, the Junior League of Buffalo and the Buffalo Seminary Alumnae Association.

She received a master’s degree from Syracuse University, and a bachelor’s degree from the University at Buffalo. Ellis is a member of the Public Relations Society of America and the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

Ellis resides in Eggertsville, New York with her husband, Tom Kucharski, and their children, Tad and Austin.
