Buffalo, N.Y. (WKBW) - A suit, shoes and the classic pearls. Colleen Drake says this was her ticket to success.
“I believe it helped me in more ways than one,” Drake said.
Drake lost her job in 2011 but found Dress for Success Buffalo.
“The transformation of coming in the door as one person and going out as another. We have a lot of moral support,” Drake said.
They have everything from suits to jackets and accessories. There is even volunteers to help the women shop. Dress for Success Buffalo Board Member Dr. Marsha Jackson said they have volunteers to help.
“Our clients don't pick their owns suit we have a professional shopper who helps them find their suit,” Dr. Jackson said.
Dr. Jackson said the women initially they get one suit for the interview. If they land the job they can pick out five more outfits. She said they not only dress women for the job, they do much more.
“We provide hope. I think many people who come in here need a confidence boost or need people to think of them positively,” Dr. Jackson said.
The building also has a computer room for women like Drake to look for jobs and write resumes. She said it is a life changing experience.
“I feel I can relate to the other women getting back into the workforce and it makes our transition a bit easier,” Drake said.
The organization not only helps women looking for jobs but also women trying to get an internship or into college. If you want to be in the medical field, they have uniforms for those professions. Dr. Jackson said there is something for everyone.
She also said this is truly a women's organization and their number one goal is to make everyone feel comfortable.
“Many of our clients come to us from domestic violence shelters to colleges and university, many of these women have come from trials and tribulations so we want to make sure that when they come here they feel safe,” Dr. Jackson said.
They will be holding their first annual Going Places Celebration on March 8th from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Buffalo Transportation Pierce Arrow Museum. Tickets are $75 and all the money will go to Dress for Success Buffalo.
