Monica Senese Memorial Benefit for Nina Greene

The 4th Annual Benefit in memory of Monica Senese will take place on Friday, November 28th, 6:30pm at Adams Fire Hall (Nash Road off of Niagara Falls Blvd) in Wheatfield. Monica Senese, a 1995 graduate of Niagara Wheatfield, died suddenly on September 2, 2000. In 2005, Monica's friends & family came together to honor her memory by giving another person a chance to continue celebrating life as Monica did for 23 years. For the past three years, Monica's friends and family have been able to help three families in this community from efforts to raise money in Monica's memory.

This year, the benefit committee has chosen a woman who has made an impact on many lives through the years, Nina Greene, an active member of the Tuscarora Nation. Nina's life drastically changed in August 2007, when she was suddenly stricken with two cerebral aneurysms. She was rushed to the hospital where surgery was performed. While in surgery, Nina suffered a stroke. For over three weeks Nina was in a coma and hospitalized until mid-April 2008, before transferring to a long term care facility for rehabilitation and therapy. Finally, after almost a year of hospitalization, Nina was able to return home on July 8, 2008.

The great news is that Nina is now in the comfort of her own home, but requires 24 hour care and is re-learning how to walk and do other daily activities. Nina's battle is still not over, as another surgery must be performed by years end. Nina has been happily married to her high school sweetheart Oriville for over 30 years and is the mother of four and grandmother to six children.

The benefit proceeds will go directly to Nina Greene's expenses for her rehabilitation and upcoming surgery. Tickets to the benefit are $20 and include food, beverage and donation. There will also be basket auction tickets available for purchase and a silent auction.
