In 2010, Ani Hoover began creating painting assemblages by cutting up old paintings and reconfiguring them into reworks on paper. By using the old paintings as building blocks for new works, the colors and textures from the paintings remain, giving a history to the new works. Since then, she has expanded her practice to include recyclable materials in various works. Ani explains, “In today’s ‘throw-a-way’ culture, it is refreshing to be able to reuse my old art works and discarded materials to create new works of art. In these works, I focused on using materials that I had already in my studio. Cutting up old paintings has become part of my daily studio practice.” Opening Reception is Friday Sept. 27 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The show runs Sept. 3 - Nov. 2. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
